Why am I passionate about this?

I have been dreaming of dragons since I was a little girl, but I can never be certain what exactly drew me in–maybe it was Dragon Tales, a show from my childhood that haunts me to this day. They fascinate me more than anything in the world, and to be able to craft my own version of them has been my greatest joy. I have never wanted anything more than the ability to ride a dragon. To be connected to something so magical and powerful that there are legends about them throughout the world, to have even a glimpse of them. They’re everything to me.

Book cover of A Game of Thrones

Anneliese Peters Why did I love this book?

As one of the first books that introduced me to the world of dragons, this is very near and dear to my heart. The intricate world-building drew me in, and while I did find myself far more attached to Dany and her dragons than anyone else, I cannot express how deeply I feel for each character.

Book cover of Court of Dragons

Anneliese Peters Why did I love this book?

Sometimes, you just need dragons and enemies-to-lovers. It was a short read, and the intricate magic of the rider’s connections to their dragons was something that I haven’t gotten over yet! Each character's relationship dynamic is so complex, and I’ve yet to find a book that kept my eyes so trained on its words.

Death or marriage.

Anneliese Peters Why did I love this book?

If we’re talking dragons and just dragons–technically, they’re wyverns, and technically, they didn’t show up until the third book, but I was absolutely captivated by the whole series. It drew me out of a years-long reading slump and left a hole in my chest since finishing. I felt each book becoming part of my being.

What a story. The world-building! The characters! The plot! This was my first introduction to Asian folklore and mythology, and I have to say there is a specific magic to it that has me stumped when it comes to finding something like it. It’s one of my biggest re-reads ever, and its sequel is just as grand as the first.

Book cover of When the Moon Hatched

Anneliese Peters Why did I love this book?

The last book that left me staring at the wall, questioning my existence. The prologue drew me in, and the rest clawed into me like a dragon's talons. Those talons have yet to leave me. If “screaming, crying, throwing up” was a book, it would be this one. I have been wholly affected by it, and I don’t ever want that to change.
